Strategy
Web Usability: Part of my service to you is not only creating a site to your specifications, but to offer my expertise in the matter. As an experienced web designer I have extensive knowledge of web usability. I know what to use, how to use it, and how to arrange it. This way, people with even the smallest amount of web experience can navigate through your site with minimal effort. A site that is user friendly is key to keeping your customers coming back!
Site Organization: To help you visualize where I'm going with the site design, I always start out with what I like to call a site "skeleton". This is the phase where I outline the site and break it into categories that make sense. All you have to do is provide the content, give me a general idea of what you would like, and I'll organize your content so everyone will be able to find what they need without having to think about it. I have a couple of rules I like to follow regarding this:
1 - I never want a user to be lost on your site.
2 - I always want the user to be able to get anywhere on your site within two clicks.
Proper Look and Feel: Now that I've talked about web usability and cross platform compatibility, I would like to bring up the next most important aspect of your site; your site must have a look and feel that reflects the audience you are targeting. As you can imagine a site geared towards kids would have a completely different look and feel then a site geared towards lawyers. Starting my career in the entertainment industry, I very quickly learned what certain audiences are attracted to when they jump on the Internet.
Cut the Clutter: A common mistake among new designers is the thought that more is better. I do agree that there are some neat features out there for the Internet. In my experience, adding all these bells and whistles to one site will overwhelm your guests. I encourage you to let me know what you've seen and what you would like to implement on your site, however, if I feel it is not right for your particular situation, I will let you know why and give you some other options. Remember, you are not only paying me to create a site, you are paying me for my expertise, ensuring that you always walk away with a successful site.
Fast Loading Speeds: The next thing you need to think about is the speed of your site. Although many people these days have high speed Internet access, there are still a few people out there with dial up modems. To keep loading speeds high I do two things:
1 - All images created are optimized for the web.
2 - All code is written by hand.
Many web designers use editing programs to create their sites. When a site is created using one of these editors, the code is extensive and messy which will slow down the loading time and make your site sluggish. By coding everything by hand I can make sure your site always loads quickly. In addition to that, the site will be easy to maintain for whomever needs make any future changes to the code.
